Mid Century

Mid-century Modern: This movement was at its peak in the middle of the last century, between 1930 and 1965. Simplicity, a mix of clean, natural forms, smooth lines and craft were central. Scandinavian design has had a big influence on the formation of this style. Well-known international and national designers from this period are: Charles and Ray Eames, Louis Poulsen, Louis van Teeffelen and Mies van der Rohe.

For a real mid-century look, add wooden details and other natural materials. Teak, walnut and oak wood are often used within this style and go well together. Other commonly used materials are: Fibers, (skai) leather, Formica, fiberglass and stainless steel.

The colours of the Mid-century style range from kitsch and bright, to understated and chic. Light walls form a basis for this style in which accent colours were used to create a powerful design statement. Common accent colours are: Mustard yellow, muted olive green, deep reddish-brown, purple, soft and greyish orange and various shades of brown.
